SGPC removes Pingalwara book stall

The president of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society Inderjit Kaur sat on a dharna outside the Golden Temple on Friday after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employees removed Pingalwara's book stall.

AMRITSAR: The president of All India Pingalwara Charitable Society Inderjit Kaur sat on a dharna outside the Golden Temple on Friday after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employees removed Pingalwara's book stall. Kaur came to the site along with Pingalwara staff and started reciting Sukhmani Sahib prayer in the evening. Pingalwara distributes around Rs 70 lakh religious material every year from the stall situated outside the Golden Temple complex.
SGPC additional secretary D S Bedi said they had removed two stalls for causing inconvenience to devotees.
Firing outside Batala college
Amritsar: Some unidentified persons opened fire outside a college in Batala on Friday. Batala superintendent of police (detective) Amrik Singh Powar said the youths came in two white vehicles and parked them outside Sekhri college. They fired in the air with a rifle and a pistol, and sped away after telling the guard that "no one will be the president from these students". Powar said they had the CCTV footage and were investigating whether there was rivalry among students groups over the college union.
