Notice for Lok Sabha motion to scrap land ordinance ahead of taking new bill

The BJP does not have to worry about pushing the bill through in the Lower House, as it has a full majority.

A notice for an admission of a motion to reject the latest Land Acquisition Ordinance has been admitted in the Lok Sabha. The motion would come up before the House when it takes up a fresh bill for replacing the ordinance.

President Pranab Mukherjee had promulgated the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2015, on April 3.

Those who have given the notices under Article 123 – Clause 2(a) – of the Constitution are C N Jayadevan (CPI), N K Premachandran (RSP), Saugata Roy (TMC), Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury (Congress) and P Karunakaran (CPM). The BJP does not have to worry about pushing the bill through in the Lower House, as it has a full majority. The problem, however, is the Rajya Sabha, where the numbers are stacked against it.
