Actor Rajendra Prasad has trounced former MLA and actress Jayasudha in the elections to the Movie Artistes Association of the Telugu fiilm industry.

HYDERABAD: Actor Rajendra Prasad has trounced former MLA and actress Jayasudha in the elections to the Movie Artistes Association of the Telugu fiilm industry. Rajendra Prasad has been elected president in the keenly contested poll. While he polled a total of 237 votes, Jayasudha got 152 votes. Another candidate who was also in the fray got five votes.
In the run up to the polls, there was much bitterness displayed between both the camps.
The results were declared on Friday after counting was taken up following clearance from the court two days ago. An actor O Kalyan had gone to the gone saying that due procedures were not followed in the elections that were conducted on March 29.
There was jubilation in the Rajendra Prasad camp as former president of Movie Artistes Association and Rajahmundry MP, M Murali Mohan declared the election results. In fact, Jayasudha had the support of Muralimohan and some bigwigs in the film industry.
In all, 394 votes were polled out of the 702 voters on election day.
After the election results were declared, Rajendra Prasad said all promises made for the welfare of artistes would be implemented. ���In fact, I will not even have tea with the money of MAA,��� he said.
In the polls, Tanikella Bharani got elected as executive vice president, Shivaji Raja won as general secretary, Parachuri Venkateshwara Rao got elected as treasurer, Naresh and Raghu Babu won as joint secretaries.
Those elected to the executive committee included Banerjee, Brahmaji, Charmee, Sriram, Maharshi Raghava, Shashanka, Gitanjali, M Harinathababu, Hema, Jackie, Jayalakshmi, Kadambari Kiran, Krishnudu, Narsing Yadav, P Srinivasulu, Rajeev Kanakala, and Vidyasagar.
