Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone’s lavani dance off in ‘Bajirao Mastani’

Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter to share her excitement about the dance number.

This is the second time in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film that two bollywood divas will do a dance off. In Devdas, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit were featured in a song “Dola Re” which caught everybody’s eye.

If ‘Dola Re’ was choreographed by Saroj Khan, this time Bhansali has zeroed in on choreographer and director Remo D’Souza.

The song will be shot over a period of 12 days, with over 50 background dancers on a larger-than-life set. The actresses have been rehearsing for over 10 days for the song, given its challenging choreography.

“Though it is essentially a lavani number, it would not be wrong to call it a mix of folk and classical dance as well. It is never easy to work with SLB as he wants nothing short of perfection. Also, with the costumes, it is never easy to choreograph or perform for the actresses. This one has two actresses so it will require absolute perfection and synchronization,” Remo said.

“After 12 years, since ‘Devdas’, audiences will see two contemporary actresses dance together in the same frame. It is a lavni composed folk song and a lot of work has gone into the sets and the picturization of the song. Both Priyanka and Deepika have worked extremely hard on the song and rehearsed long hours for it,” said Bhansali.

Priyanka Chopra will be seen in typical Maharashtrian avatar wearing nauvaris and paithanis, will be playing the role of Kashibai, the first wife of Peshwa Baji Rao along with Deepika Padukone as Mastani. (With PTI inputs)
