Cops: Dad kills daughter's boyfriend as she tries to leave
HUMBLE, Texas — A man is accused of killing his daughter's boyfriend as the young man arrived to pick up the girl Thursday evening.
Because the family didn't like him, the 22-year-old parked down the street from his 19-year-old girlfriend's home, according to Harris County Precinct 4 constable's office. She argued with her parents about leaving and walked down the street to her boyfriend.
The teen's mom ran after her, and the dad said he followed behind. The dad told authorities that he grabbed his gun because he believed the boyfriend also carried a weapon.
When they reached the end of the street, an argument broke out and the dad shot the boyfriend in the chest. The young man was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.
His wife also was shot in the hand, authorities said. None of the names of those involved in the incident were released.
The boyfriend had two pistols in the car that turned out to be BB guns, detectives said. The case has been referred to the Harris County District Attorney's Office and may go to a grand jury to determine if the father was acting in self-defense.
No arrests or charges had been filed as of late Thursday.
