Hungary’s National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV) said that inspections based on an electronic monitoring system for road haulage companies, which aims to squeeze out tax evaders, have increased tax revenue by HUF 1.5 bln in March, Hungarian economic daily Napi Gazdaság reported today.

According to the paper, NAV inspected a total of 7,502 shipments and seized 283 of them due to suspected irregularities. The estimated worth of the seized cargo is approximately HUF 1 bln, the paper added.

The tax authority collected another HUF 500 mln in cash revenue from 1,303 cases of inspected companies who were fulfilling overdue tax obligations.

From March, haulage companies are required to pay security risk fees to NAV on some risky products, Napi Gazdaság noted, adding that by April 7, HUF 2.13 bln was forwarded to the tax authorityʼs deposit account.
