BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh economic offences wing (EOW) initiated a fresh inquiry last week to investigate a complaint against former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and members of a charitable trust run by his family, alleging illegal sale of land in Gwalior.
EOW superintendent of police (SP) issued notices to officers of Gwalior’s town and country planning department, district administration and revenue department, seeking details on land deal by scions of former rulers of Gwalior state.

Complainant Surendra Srivastava alleged the Scindia Devasthan Charitable Trust sold land (survey number 1217) at Mahalgaon area to three housing societies on green belt. Srivastava has also been summoned by EOW SP to record his statement.
They sold 1.076 hectare of land to Maharana Pratap Housing Society, 0.261 hectare to Bhagyoday Grih Nirman society, 0.240 hc to Narayan builders and two individuals named Dayakrishna (0.042 hectares) and Dwarka Harprasad (0.042 hectares), claimed Srivastava.
He said total area of land on government records is 1.578 hectare whereas registries show Scindia Devasthan charitable Trust sold 1.661 hectare of land.
“Not only green belt land was sold, but extra portion of land was sold. Market value of this land is more than Rs 1000 crore,” he alleged.
EOW has sent notices to housing societies also. “One of the housing societies got approval for construction on this land from town and country planning, much before the land was sold. This is surprising and the matter is being investigated,” said an EOW officer.

Earlier, EOW initiated a probe against Scindia and members of two charitable trusts run by his family on a complaint of land-grabbing.
In his earlier complaint, Surendra Srivastava alleged Kamla Raje Charitable Trust sold 0.146 hectare of land to Narayan Builders and Developers Ltd through Jyotiraditya Scindia Charitable Trust despite it being declared a government land by high court in 2006.
Land in question was a government property between 1948 and 1989. In 2004, local administration moved court against the trusts after they claimed ownership.
