BHOPAL: A local court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by Congress seeking action against
Uma Bharti for allegedly insulting the
national flag at a public meeting during her ‘
Tiranga Yatra’ in Hubli (Karnataka) in 2004. Chief Judicial Magistrate Pankaj Singh Maheshweri concluded that documents and pictures enclosed with petition were insufficient to prove the alleged misconduct.
Petition was filed by Congress leader
Deepchand Yadav in September 2004 demanding registration of case against Uma Bharti under Section 2 of Prevention of Insult to National Honours Act, 1971.
Yadav claimed to have to made futile effort to get the case registered at the TT Nagar police station before moving the court.
According to the petitioner Bharti had held the tricolour in the form of a `gamchha' (scarf) at the public meet while undertaking the Tiranga Yatra after quitting as Madhya Pradesh chief minister. Yadav claimed the police succumbed to political pressure and refrained from acting against Bharti.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters on the Vyapam issue and allegations against her in the case, Uma Bharti said, “I was one of the first, who had asked for a CBI probe but now other agencies have been appointed to investigate the case. If I say anything, it would be influencing the agencies.”
“Farmers in Bundelkhand areas have been affected in the hailstorms and unseasonal rains. We held a meeting in New Delhi on crop insurance and both Union home minister Rajnath Singh and Union agriculture minister supported sending prompt relief to affected areas.
The crop insurance policy has been approved by the Centre and mobile phone number released for farmers in case they have complaints,” Uma Bharti said.
She assured that the Narendra Modi Centre would not leave farmers at the hands of destiny and hence the agriculture community should refrain from suicidal tendencies.
