The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Puducherry unit, on Sunday said the budget session of Puducherry Legislative Assembly should be conducted for 20 days rather than being a short one.

Addressing press persons, AIADMK Legislature Party Deputy Leader A. Anbalagan pointed out that as per communication given to MLAs, the budget session of Assembly is going to be for a short duration.

He said the annual budget should be allowed to be discussed by MLAs in the Assembly in length and hence it should be conducted for at least 20 days as several issues concerning public are required to be discussed by the legislators.

He also flayed the government for not disclosing the fact on whether it got approval of the Union Government for its plan size.

The AIADMK leader said the ruling All India NR Congress has not presented a full budget for the last four years. Even last month, it preferred pass a Vote-on-Account as an interim measure without any discussion by Members of the Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Anbalagan said AINRC came to power on promising transparent governance and corruption-free administration but it has been doing contrary to the promise.

He also alleged that the AINRC government had not implemented any of its promise made in the election manifesto before coming to power.

Charging that the ruling AINRC failed to obtain Statehood and waiver of loan from the Union Government, he added that the government also wholly betrayed the voters who voted it to power.

Finding fault with the government for not convening any consultation meeting with traders or others before the budget, he said the government should conduct such consultations with elected representatives too.
