CHANDIGARH: Panic gripped relatives of dog bite victims in Shanti Nagar locality in Manimajra after the death of Sadiya, with one of them even allegedly being asked to leave their rented accommodation.
Parents of Anjali, 7, who was bitten by the stray dog that had attacked Sadiya, were asked to vacate their house by the landlord who feared that "rabies could spread from their daughter".
"Where do we go? The house owner has given us an ultimatum of a few days," said Sunita, mother of Anjali.
Parents of other victims were found making queries about the further course of treatment. Rekha Devi, aunt of Kritika, a nine months old girl, said, "Kritika was standing at the entrance of her house when the stray dog bit her. The death of Sadia has shocked us. We are consulting leading private doctors for the better treatment of our daughter."
Almost all dog bite victims were residents of street number 8 at Shanti Nagar. Some of them had not taken vaccination earlier. Amarjeet Singh, 26, of Shanti Nagar, said he was attacked by a stray dog some days back and he took vaccination only after coming to know about the fate of Sadia.
Municipal corporation officials said doctors and staff of Sector 19 dispensary were visiting the homes of all the other dog bite victims from the area and taking care of their vaccination. The next dose of vaccination would be given to them on April 20 and 22.
