Members of Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) staged demonstration in front of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University’s administrative building on Thursday to highlight their demands.
The protestors said faculty members working with the six MSU colleges and four constituent colleges were being paid anywhere between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 12,000 while they were being compelled to work for more hours than the mandatory working hours prescribed by the University Grants Commission.
None of these faculty members were being given the mandatory privileges even though the MSU administration had already agreed to extend those benefits.
Hence, the minimum salary of Rs. 25,000 should be given to the teachers working in the MSU colleges and four constituent colleges.
Teachers working in the self-finance colleges and the self-finance courses should be given the salary prescribed by the government besides ensuring job security.
MUTA office-bearers Manohara Justus, S. Subbaraj, J. Johnson and others spoke on the occasion.
