Alleging ‘sacrilege’ of the Prakasam Barrage due to the visit of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders performed ‘Ksheerabhishekam’ to the statue of Krishnaveni at the barrage and said that it was an act of ‘purification’.

The State government was taking up the Pattiseema lift irrigation project in the larger interest of the farming community, but the YSR Congress chief was trying to divide people on the regional lines, TDP leaders alleged.

In the past, the Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy government had taken up Jalayagnam programme with many irregularities and on the contrary today, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was visiting Polavaram and other projects, alleged Budda Venkanna, TDP Urban Convenor.

“We believe the barrage got desecrated due to Mr. Reddy’s visit. Hence, we are purifying the place,” he said.
