Suspected naxals visit Shivamogga village

A group of suspected naxals visited Hosagadde village in Agumbe gram panchayat limits of Tirthahalli taluk on Wednesday night.

According to the police, they left a message on the wall of the Government Higher Primary School opposing the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015.

They also cautioned the Forest Department officials against evicting small and marginal farmers in the name of encroachment clearance drive.

The naxals erected a banner at the entrance of the school, in which they called upon the people of Malnad region to boycott the forthcoming gram panchayat elections, the police said.

Following the incident, the Anti-Naxal Squad intensified combing operations in the forests near Hosagadde, Agumbe and Malandur villages.
