: Three civil police officers from the Kovalam police station were stabbed, allegedly by notorious history sheeter Karate Johnny late Thursday when they attempted to nab him from near a beer and wine parlour at Kovalam.

According to the police, CPOs Jiji, Vidyasagar and Dinesh had reached the parlour around 9.30 p.m. after an alert from the Poovar Circle Inspector saying that the accused, wanted in an attempt to murder case in the Poovar police station limits, was spotted at the parlour.

Johnny, an accused in several cases, including the 2005 communal riots at Poovar, allegedly attacked them with a dagger, injuring all three of them before fleeing the spot.

The policemen were admitted to the Medical College Hospital.
