Determined to regain its foothold with the traditional vote back which had slipped out of its hands in the general elections, Congress party in Telangana has drawn an action plan to woo them back.

The High-level committee of the Telangana Congress headed by former PCC chief D. Srinivas firmly believes that it should woo the people from Andhra and Rayalaseema settled in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana. It felt that efforts should be made to regain the confidence of minorities, particularly Muslim community.

Conceding that the attractive manifesto of TRS and the promises made to the SCs and STs had turned against the party in general elections, it now wants to harp on the fact that the TRS government has failed to fulfil its poll promises. It is also eyeing the resentment brewing among the youth and student community.

Senior Congress leaders told The Hindu that it could ill afford to ignore the interests of people from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions as they were not comfortable with the TRS and would not risk the chance of openly aligning with the TDP in Telangana. Leaders opined that as it was hard to fight the MIM in Old City, it should try to bring back the Muslim voters in rural and semi-urban areas. Congress leaders admitted that the party lost in close to 25-30 seats because the Muslims had voted for the TRS.

At a press conference after the meeting, Mr. Srinivas and others said the next meeting was scheduled on April 27. Outlining the way forward, he said that starting from Warangal and Khammam, they were chalking out an action plan to complete a tour of all the 10 districts of Telangana by the end of May.
