Over a million people to be enrolled in cooperative societies

Siddaramaiah says the reach of Yeshasvini scheme will be improved

The State government has decided to enrol over 1,80,0000 people below the poverty line in any cooperative society close to their homes to ensure that they can get the benefits of the Yeshasvini Cooperative Farmers Health Care Scheme.

He was speaking after inaugurating public works worth Rs.200 crore at Biligere village in Nanjangud taluk on Thursday. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that over 30 lakh farmers would be given interest-free loan of Rs. 3 lakh this year. He said that the government had waived loans totalling Rs. 1,350 crore availed by the people belonging to the SC, ST and minority communities.

On the future plans of the government, the Chief Minister said that the poor would be given rice for free so that the State becomes starvation free.

He said that his budget focussed on giving justice to the oppressed and the suppressed by introducing different schemes for their benefit. He claimed that in all the 10 budgets he had presented, he had concentrated on launching welfare schemes for the poor and the downtrodden. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that over 881 villages have been provided with river water at a cost of Rs. 518 crore and he announced that the State government had decided to provide river water to all the villages in the State irrespective of the cost involved. Of the 881 villages, 218 villages were in Varuna, which is his home constituency. He said that he wanted to express his gratitude to people of his constituency.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticised the Centre for cutting down grants to the State. He also said that the BJP government in the Centre had launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan when Nirmal Bharat had already launched by the earlier UPA government.
