Vikaspuri-Wazirabad signal-free corridor to open by year-end

April 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The traffic woes of motorists on the Outer Ring Road is likely to reduce by the year-end as the Delhi Government has set December 31 deadline for the Vikaspuri-Wazirabad signal-free corridor.

The project has four components that involve construction of four flyovers at different traffic intersections — Vikaspuri-Meera Bagh elevated corridor; Mangolpuri-Madhuban Chowk elevated corridor; Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba Chowk elevated corridor and Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad signal-free project.

The project is already running late as it was to be completed by mid 2015. Issues ranging from land acquisition and environment to funding have delayed the project. Sources said, around 30-40 per cent of the work is still to be completed at different stretches.

The delay has made the stretch on the Outer Ring Road in West Delhi and North Delhi a traffic nightmare.

PWD Minister Satyendra Jain, however, said he has fixed “December 31 deadline for its completion though the contractors sought a year’s time to complete it”.

The Minister also ruled out any fund-related issues for the project.
