As a result of their actions in an acrimonious I-League clash here recently, Bengaluru FC assistant coach Pradyum Reddy and Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil have been suspended for four I-League matches each.
BFC chief coach Ashley Wetswood and Mumbai FC player Amoes Do have been fined.
According to a press release from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the disciplinary committee of the AIFF decided to punish Pradhyum for using “abusive language.” Jamil was charged and found guilty of indulging in “offensive behaviour.” The statement added that Jamil apologized and assured the committee that he would abide by the AIFF rules and regulations from hereon.
Westwood was fined Rs. 2 lakh under two charges — entering into the playing pitch to protest the decision of the referee, as well as misconduct in the field. Amoes was fined Rs. 50,000 for indulging in offensive behaviour after the match.
BFC, as a club, has been fined Rs. 2 lakh and “have been warned to improve the organisational facilities.” The club has been told to take responsibility for the actions of its fans, the AIFF clarified.
It may be recalled that earlier this month, the two sides met at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in an incident-filled match. Pradhyum was accused by Amoes of using abusive language during the encounter, and after the final whistle, Amoes ran up to the stands and clashed with fans. Jamil fell to the ground after a bottle from the stands was flung in his direction. Westwood later claimed, by displaying video evidence, that Jamil was only pretending to be injured.
The fine imposed on BFC is likely to be in response to claims from Mumbai FC squad that they were continuously abusive and disrespectful during the clash, as well as the fact that a spectator threw a bottle towards the Mumbai FC bench.
