MUMBAI: In a relief to three hundred students of Andheri’s Oriental Public School, the management has reversed its decision to ask them to leave as it plans to switch to an international board from the state board at present.
The school on Thursday put up a notice saying it would allow students to continue till they complete their SSC. "You are hereby informed that Oriental Public School (primary and secondary) will continue to operate from academic year 2015-2016 and will reopen on June 15.
This will be valid till the final school batch under the SSC board passes out," said the notice.
Earlier this week, parents had been told their wards would have to find another school for the next academic year starting June 2015 saying it had decided to move to the Cambridge curriculum.
Parents on Wednesday submitted a letter demanding the school reconsider its plan. "We parents are shocked and surprised by the management’s decision conveyed to us on Monday, April 13 ... It appears that the management has taken a decision without application of mind by asking our children to leave the school," read the letter, which was handed over to the principal.
Following the letter, the school management met with parents on Thursday and assured them that they can continue in the school. "The trustees have said they will start the international board school simultaneously but not take any new admission for the SSC board school. They have agreed to allow the current students to continue. We are glad that the management has allowed that," said Arif Gori, parent of a class IX student.
Despite repeated attempts to contact him, Javed Khan, the former education minister of state and trustee of Oriental Education Society, remained unavailable for comment.
