10 hurt, houses, shops vandalised as rival AL men clash in Pabna
At least 10 people were injured and five houses and 10 shops were vandalised during a clash between two rival groups of Awami League in Natiabari area under Bera upazila of the district yesterday.
Officer-in-Charge Md Jasim Uddin of Aminpur Police Station said there had been a long-standing feud between Fazlur Rahman, president of Jatshakini union unit of AL, and Abu Bakkar, a member of the unit, over establishing supremacy in the area.
As a sequel to the conflict, the supporters of the two locked in a clash near the residence of AL lawmaker Azizul Haque Arzu at around 9:00am.
They hurled brick chips at each other and used lethal weapons during the clash, leaving at least 10 people from both sides injured.
At least 10 shops and five houses were vandalised in the area during the clash that continued for half an hour.
Being informed, police rushed to the spot and fired blank shots to disperse the clashing groups. The law enforcers also arrested 13 people from there.
A tense situation was prevailing in the area as of filing of this report at 5:00pm. Police have been deployed in the area to avert any further incident.
Contacted, Lawmaker Azizul Haque Arzu said attempts are being made to resolve the conflict between Fazlu and Bakkar.
