BJP to hold workshop for MPs on pro-poor schemes on April 19

In response to Congress's April 19 rally where it plans to paint the Centre "anti-farmer", ruling BJP will engage its MPs on the same day in a workshop where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak on how to take the government's 'pro-poor' schemes to the masses.

New Delhi: In response to Congress's April 19 rally where it plans to paint the Centre "anti-farmer", ruling BJP will engage its MPs on the same day in a workshop where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak on how to take the government's 'pro-poor' schemes to the masses.

The workshop 'Garib Kalyan Yojnaye: Its Effective Implementation and role of MP' will focus on the government's pro-poor welfare programmes and how to take them to the grassroots level.

Modi will deliver the inaugural address and party president Amit Shah will give the concluding speech, while senior ministers like Sushma Swaraj, Thawar Chand Gehlot, among others, would address the MPs, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu making a presentation.

The workshop comes at a time when the Congress-led opposition is consistently working to paint the government as "anti-poor" and "pro-industry".

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who has returned from a sabbatical, is set to address the public at the national farmers' rally to be held at Ramlila Maidan on Sunday, while BJP's workshop takes place at Parliament's Balayogi Auditorium on the same day.

Sources in the BJP Parliamentary Party, which is organising the workshop in association with Shri Rambhau Mhalagi Prabodhini, a training and research academy of socio-political activists, said the government had conceived several pro-poor and welfare schemes and will seek suggestions from MPs to improve on these while also spreading the word around that the government cares for the poor.

BJP will hold similar workshop for private secretaries and personal assistants of MPs.

The workshop will focus on ensuring success of several welfare schemes launched by various Ministries.

"The conference's agenda would focus on introduction of various central government welfare schemes, the role of MP in executing them and preparation and follow up for their implementation," secretary of BJP Parliamentary Party Balasubrahmanyam Kamarsu said.

He said the success of the schemes directly depends on the involvement of local public representatives, who need to have proper understanding and should make a concerted effort for cooperation of people and involvement of the bureaucracy.

The success of the schemes is not only important for government but also for local MPs and if a concerted effort is launched then they will be implemented properly, he underlined.
