NAGPUR: Singapore government is exploring for opportunities in logistics business for Singapore-based companies at Mihan in Nagpur. This was disclosed by the consulate General of Singapore Ajit Singh who on Wednesday called on city mayor Pravin Datke and municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar.
He sought details of investment opportunities in the city. A senior officer of Singapore foreign services, Singh took stock of the ongoing projects by different urban bodies in city and also apprised himself of the future plans of NMC.
The diplomat said he discussed with the NMC urban solutions and logistics. There were two logistics companies in Singapore registered with the Bombay Stock Exchange and they have been doing business in India for years.
He said he may propose to the Singapore government to invest into this field, as Nagpur was important from logistics point of view. Singh, who is scheduled to visit the Pench Tiger Reserve on April 16, said the Singapore government may also explore possibilities to investment in tourism industry in India. Singapore also conduct conventions on World Mayors’ Conference, Centre for Livable City, Leadership programmes every year, he said and informed that the mayor and municipal commissioner would be invited for these.
Singh was also all praise for the cleanliness of the old and new city and was overwhelmed by the broad roads that were free of crowds. He said that Nagpur was full of natural beauty and was a clean and systematic city. During his two hour stay in the NMC, Singh said his country had expertise in urban planning, tourism and could contribute to India.
Mayor Pravin Datke on behalf of NMC invited the Singapore companies to invest in infrastructure development of Nagpur. Datke also sought Singapore’s technical assistance and financial planning for implementing sewage treatment plant and rejuvenation of Nag River and integrated transport planning. NMC’s superintending engineer Prakash Urade made a presentation about civic body’s existing infrastructural projects and future plans.

Recent visits:
A delegation of France Development Agency (AFD), which may fund city’s metro rail project, had visited the city to study various city-based issues including financial health of the NMC and to study whether the metro rail plan is financially viable.
Delegations of China and Australia visited the city to explore industrial opportunities in MIHAN and SEZ.
