Mahindra Bolero: Largest Selling UV in India for 9 Consecutive Years

Mahindra Bolero continues to be the country’s largest selling UV for the 9th consecutive year now. The utility vehicle has a very strong rural and semi-urban markets demand and has been on the top of the charts since the financial year 2007.

As per Mahindra, Bolero emerged as the 5th largest selling passenger vehicle in Indian car market during the financial year 2014-15, and the only UV to be featured in the top 10 selling cars. The company goes on to claim that they sold over 1 lakh units last fiscal which does show some discrepancy with the official SIAM data we have.

As per SIAM, Mahindra sold 95,313 units of the Bolero in the financial year 2014-15 (which also includes a few thousand units of Quanto). They exported 588 units of Bolero in the same financial year. If we look at the sales performance of Bolero Pick-up truck (and the Genio), the company sold 1,29,755 units of these in the same time and exported 17,070 units.

The Bolero was first introduced back in August 2000 and is expected to be updated to a new version soon. This might be a bit smaller than the current UV on sale and will hopefully get a much more modern design and quality.
