Like every year, sweet is the call amidst this year's festivi ties too. From Pachadi to Sita Bhog, Badami Besan Ke Laddoo to Fruit Shrikhand, here's an appetising list of sweetmeats that are made in different states to welcome the New Year...

MANGO PACHADI (CHITHIRAI TIRUNAL)
Mango Pachadi is a must during the Tamil New Year and is also one of the first dishes that Tamilians dig into during this festival. The two key ingredients are jaggery and raw mango.
BADAMI BESAN KE LADDOO (BAISAKHI)
This is one popular mithai that Punjabis love tucking into to ring in their New Year. Made of besan, freshly crushed almonds, green cardamom powder and powdered sugar, the smell of sizzling ghee always leaves you on a high.
PITHA (BOHAG BIHU)
Pitha is a must-try Assamese sweet dish. There are various types of Pitha like Til, Ghila, Hutuli, Tekeli, but the tastiest one is the Narikol Pitha, that's made using coconut and sugar.

UNNIYAPPAM (VISHU)
Malayalis can't even think of Vishu without the sweet deep-fried Unniyappam. It is a small round snack made of rice, jaggery, banana, roasted coconut pieces, roasted sesame seeds, ghee and cardamom powder.Other fruits like jackfruit can also be used instead of banana.
SITA BHOG (POILA BOISHAKH)
This is one of the most unique Bengali sweetmeats ever that will tantalise your taste buds.The sweet rice vermicelli is made of paneer and maida, and decorated with small Gulab Jamuns.
FRUIT SHRIKHAND (GUDI PADWA)
There are numerous sweetmeats specially made for the Maharashtrian New Year like Shrikhand and Puran Poli, but the Fruit Shrikhand is a healthy option that's in demand nowadays. Low fat curd, along with the fruits, add to the nutrition value.
