After escaping from the recent kidnap incident, AINR Congress functionary and private company employee V. Udayakumar on Sunday said the kidnap was done in cinematic style by a gang.

‘Now I feel as if I got a new birth’ said Mr. Udayakumar while adding that he was greatly relieved. He also thanked the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, police officials and friends for their attempt to get him released from the kidnappers.

Explaining the incident, Mr. Udayakumar said while he was returning from Whirl Pool Company in Thirubhuvanai, a group of persons stopped him as if they were conducting a routine check on vehicles on the Ariyapalayam Bridge, Villianur. The gang pushed him inside his car and two vehicles followed him. Claiming to be officials of the Income Tax Department, they asked him to cooperate with them for enquiry.

He said he was taken to Sriperumbudur, Poonamallee and the premises of Income Tax Department at Nungambakkam in Chennai. They pretended as they were from Income Tax Department and later he was confined in a room.

Mr. Udayakumar said the kidnappers demanded a ransom Rs. 2 crore for his release but due to police surveillance, they let him go.

Meanwhile, the Villianur police was on the look out for a few more persons in connection with the kidnap.

He said he was taken to Sriperumbudur, Poonamallee and the premises of I-T Dept. in Chennai
