US carriers have started to release Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for lots of smartphones in the last couple of weeks.

Samsung, LG and HTC have done a good job of offering their customers the long-awaited Lollipop update, though it took slightly longer for carrier-branded model to get the upgrade.

Unveiled back in August 2014, Samsung Galaxy Alpha made it to market one month later. The smartphone was well received by both consumers and media, especially due to the premium design that turned it into a worthy competitor for Apple's iPhone.

The smartphone currently ships with Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, though some owners of the unlocked model have already received the Lollipop upgrade.

Surprisingly, AT&T has recently announced that, beginning April 14, Samsung Galaxy Alpha owners who purchase their smartphones through the carrier's official retail channels will be able to download the highly anticipated Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update.

An app has been removed, some bug fixes have been added

According to the carrier, the update is pushed FOTA (firmware over the air) and is about 1GB in size. Keep in mind that you will need a Wi-Fi connection in order to download the update and also make sure that you have enough storage on your Galaxy Alpha.

Aside from the usual Android 5.0.2 Lollipop new features and improvements, AT&T has included some change of its own.

For example, AT&T has confirmed that it has removed the SoftCard application. Additionally, other planned bug fixes, apps updates and enhancements have been implemented as well.

If you haven't been notified on the update yet, you can manually check for it by heading to Settings / More / About Device / Software Update.

Keep in mind that the upgrade is deployed in stages, so it might take a few days until it reaches all Samsung Galaxy Alpha devices at AT&T.
