Residents of the government-run girls hostel in Parvati Nagar on Wednesday staged a demonstration under the banner of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) to protest against serving rice with worms.

The students said they were shocked to find worms in the rice served to them during lunch. B. Anita, Ballari Zilla Panchayat President, took the warden to task besides directing him to set right the facilities, including supply of potable water, maintenance of cleanliness and serving quality food. She also directed the warden to place the cooks under suspension immediately, according to a ABVP press release.
