The job of police personnel is not easy or simple but challenging and difficult, particularly for those serving with the reserved wings of the department who are required to be prepared 24x7 to take on emergency situations, Om Prakash, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police (DG&IGP), has said.

Addressing the newly recruited personnel to the Karnataka State Reserve Police and reviewing their passing out parade at the KSRP’s training unit at Machhe, 13 km from here on Wednesday, he said the personnel from reserved forces need to be ready to move and carry out instructions from their senior officials , mentally and physically. “This means the personnel need to be mentally and physically strong to tackle any given situation during their service,” he said. A total of 358 recruits to the KSRP, who were trained at KSRP training centres at Machhe, Shiggaon, Shivamogga and Vijayapura, successfully completed the training and will join the Bengaluru battalion. Additional Director-General of Police (KSRP) Praveen Sood, IGP of KSRP Malini Krishnamurthy, IGP of Northern Range Umesh Kumar, Police Commissioner S. Ravi, Superintendent of Police Ravikanthe Gowda and other senior officials of KSRP training unit were present.

Mr. Prakash, who gave away prizes to meritorious candidates who excelled in different spheres of training during the course, hoped the quality of training they received would keep them in good stead throughout their career and life.

He announced that the next batch of recruits would be trained on the new campus of the KSRP unit at Kangrali in Belagavi city, where a complex had been constructed spending Rs. 8 crore. Mr. Prakash said the government had accorded permission to go ahead with the long-over due promotions.

Also, the government had approved an annual grant of Rs.1,000 to all the police personnel, from constable to Additional Superintendent of Police to take up health check-up, which hitherto was being done on complimentary basis with the support of social organisations like Rotary Club, and hospitals and doctors.

The government had also approved higher wages for personnel attending duties on weekly offs, he added.
