C.S. Nadagouda, Karnataka’s special representative to New Delhi, has said that the State government is in touch with the Goa government to resolve the problem of labourers from State who are facing evacuation from the Baina beach in Goa.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, he said that since it was a sensitive issue, the government was treading cautiously and was not ready to take any hasty decision which could harm the interest of the Kannadigas.

Settlements

The labourers from Karnataka are reportedly being displaced by the Goa government for illegally setting up settlements on government land near Baina beach.

“The government is in constant touch with the Goa officials. The government has also instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada to visit Goa and monitor the situation to make sure that best solution is offered to Kannadigas,” Mr. Nadagouda said.

He said that it was not a political issue and urged the media not to read too much between the lines.

Asked about setting up an Indian Institute of Technology in Vijayapura district, district in-charge Minister M.B. Patil said that a detailed memorandum would be submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

With regard to master plan of Vijayapura city which had been pending for the want of funds, the Minister hoped that the Chief Minister would allocate funds in the supplementary budget in coming days.

Holding talks

Meanwhile, Minister for Small Scale Industries Satish L. Jarkiholi has condemned the Goa government over the attempt to forcefully evict Kannadigas from the Baina beach. He told presspersons on the sidelines of a function here on Wednesday that the State government had taken up the issue seriously and would hold talks with the Goa government.

“The Goa government should take the Kannadigas into confidence by providing them rehabilitation instead of trying to forcefully evict them,” Mr. Jarakiholi said.
