Amid religious fervour, Sri Dharma Sastha Kalyanam was performed in a grand fashion at the Ayyappa temple abutting Rangarayuducheruvu here on Wednesday.

Devotees chanted Poorna-Pushkala Nathane, Saranam Ayyappa as Vedic priests led by Parankusa Keshavacharyulu performed the celestial marriage of Lord Hariharaputra with his consorts Poorna and Pushkala, tastefully decorated with silk robes, gold ornaments and a wide range of flowers.

The elaborate Kalyanotsavam started with abhishekam to the idols of Hariharaputra and his consorts. This was followed by Vishvakesena puja , Punyahavachanam, Rakshabandhan, Kanyadanam and Mangaldharanam for the well-being of the society, said Devasthanam president Nallamalli Venkateswarulu and secretary K.V.L. Narasimha Rao. Children vied with one another to capture in their mobile phones the episodes associated with the celestial wedding, especially the most interesting one — the ceremony of exchanging garlands.

A community feast was organised on the occasion, said Devasthanam executive member Tata Ramakrishna.
