NAGPUR: The newly transferred deputy
inspector general of police (prison, eastern region), Vitthal Jadhav comes in at a critical time when the Nagpur Central Jail is mired in controversy over the jail break by 5 undertrial’s last month. He replaces Shashikant Shinde.
Jadhav was earlier in the administration wing of the
Maharashtra Security Corporation. This is his first
posting in Vidarbha.
“Police’s job always entails challenges,” he said.
“I am aware of the current crisis but don’t know much details.” Jadhav will be taking up his posting in a
few days.
Tasks before Jadhav: Streamline system in jail.
End rampant corruption.
Take pending inquiries to logical conclusions.
Upgrade jail’s security and surveillance.
End wrong practices by inmates, like using mobile phone.
Appoint strong administrative heads.
Pursue proposals with govt.
Bolster health and education facilities in jail.
Improve coordination with local police.
