JAIPUR: Almost 48 hours since a 22-year-old student pursuing BA IInd year at city's St Xavier's college was kidnapped, the police showed promptness in recovering the boy from Pushkar in Ajmer. Police have also arrested three persons in this connection including the key conspirator and executor.
According to police, after the kidnap it was clear that one Vikram Singh and Gajendra Singh, both natives of Subash Nagar in Bharatpur were behind this act.
Police got a major breakthrough when the kidnappers on Wednesday again called the family of the victim for ransom. This helped the police to trace their possible location to nab them.
"Vikram Singh was a close acquaintance with the victim, Sunny Patel. On Monday, Vikram came to his paying guest accommodation and asked him to come along with him. Without realizing that he was kidnapped, Sunny kept roaming around the city with Vikram and his associate. Later, at 6 pm the accused called for ransom and demanded Rs 15 lakh from the father of the victim in Madhya Pradesh. We had some call details and other clues that took us towards them," said Janga Sriniwas Rao, commissioner of police, Jaipur in a press conference.
The commissioner further stated that the kidnappers had also given a deadline of paying the ransom money through electronic money transfer in the bank and had also threatened to eliminate the student. "We had constituted a team led by additional commissioner of police, Vipin Pandey and Deputy Commissioner of police(South) Ravi Dutt Gaur and had sent teams to Bharatpur, Alwar and Ajmer. On the other hand the kidnappers were roaming in Puskhar in Ajmer and had kept the cellphone of victim student with them to ensure he may not call anyone. On the other hand they were regularly calling up the parents and grandparents of the student," Rao added.
However, a phone call made at 9 am on Wednesday morning took the police closer to them. "We had already kept their phones on mobile surveillance and when it was cleared that their location was somewhere near Ajmer, our team nabbed them and recovered the boy," said a senior officer who was part of the team that rescued the student.
Rao further stated that victim was kept hostage and was never let to be alone. "It was also found that when the student realized that he was already been kidnapped with folded hands he pleaded them to leave him. His(Victim's) phone was switched off and taken in possession by the kidnappers," he added.
Finally the Jaipur police team on Wednesday afternoon arrested Vikram Singh, Gajendra Singh and also one Ramesh. "Ramesh is booked for the criminal conspiracy (120-B) while other two are booked for the kidnap," the commissioner added.
