The Hockeyroos will go up against Argentina for the first time since they met in the 2014 Champions Trophy final.
On that occasion Argentina came out on top 3-1 on a shoot-out to win the gold medal.
Thursday’s game is set to be another difficult one after the Hockeyroos failed to find the back of the net against India in their final pool match on Tuesday.
The two sides played out a nil-all draw on Tuesday night which left Australia third in their pool with three draws from three games.
China and United States finished ahead of Australia in Pool A.
Argentina finished second in Pool B with two wins and a loss from three games.
New Zealand claimed top billing with two wins and a draw.
Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens knows his players’ energy levels will need to be at their best on Thursday if they are to topple Argentina.
“We need to do the same as we did tonight with high energy levels, good pressure and good patience in moving the ball from one side to the other,” Commens said.
“If we can do this well, we will hopefully open up critical plays in the circle and create ourselves more opportunities against Argentina in the quarter-final.”
In Tuesday night’s match against India, in which Bone started, the Hockeyroos had chances either side of the half-time break to score but Jodie Kenny’s drag flicks didn’t find their mark.
Australia is ranked number two in the world while Argentina is ranked number three.
Thursday’s quarter-final between Australia and Argentina is scheduled for 1.45pm (AEST).
