A six-year-old child has died near Parry Sound, Ont., after he became pinned under rocks he was playing on.

Ontario Provincial Police said they responded to a call Tuesday evening, about a missing child in Seguin Township, located approximately 220 kilometres north of Toronto.

The boy went missing while out on a nature walk with his father, police said in a statement.

A search team made up of officers, firefighters, family members and civilians was quickly formed to help look for the boy.

The child was eventually located wedged under a rock.

"The initial investigation reveals that the six-year-old was climbing on rocks and the rock shifted, pinning the boy under," the statement said.

CPR was administered and the child was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He has been identified as Fynn Bywater of Seguin Township.

The West Parry Sound OPP and the coroner's office will be investigating the death.
