Point will do for Davis

Crewe boss Steve Davis insists League One survival is in their own hands after his side picked up a crucial point at Peterborough.

Posh striker Conor Washington's 10th goal of the season cancelled out Lauri Dalla Valle's second goal in as many games for Alex, who have now won just one of their last eight matches. The 1-1 draw at the ABAX Stadium pushed Crewe out of the bottom four, but with teams below having a game in hand Davis is looking for a repeat of his side's first-half performance on Tuesday night in their remaining fixtures. "We were the more dominant side in the first-half and they were more dominant in the second-half. It finished 1-1, it could have been 4-4," said Davis. "We've done that quite a lot this season where we've had a good half and a bad half. "They were excellent in the second half and took the game to us. At the end, I think a point here is good. "We know what we've got to do. We've got Walsall, Coventry and Bradford to play - a couple of those at home. It's in our hands. "If we can produce the first-half performance that we did here then we're going to be okay." Crewe took the lead after three minutes as former Peterborough player Nicky Ajose chipped a ball into the area to Dalla Valle who spun near the penalty spot and fired a shot past goalkeeper Ben Alnwick. The visitors conceded in the 66th minute when Marcus Maddison's shot from 20 yards was parried by Paul Rachubka to Washington and he fired home from inside the area. The goal was Posh's first in over eight hours of football and they were on the front foot again with Washington who went down inside the area under a challenge by George Ray, although no penalty was given. Washington also saw a close-range shot saved but the draw means Peterborough now appear certain to miss out on the play-offs. Posh manager Dave Robertson revealed he told his players some home truths after a lacklustre first-half. "In the first half we were never good enough by our standards and we did not play with the energy we are used to as a team or meet the standards we set ourselves," he said. "The response we got in the second half was really positive. We had 14 shots with eight on target and the lads gave us a real energy. "We need to do that for 90 minutes. It was an honest team-talk at half-time and exactly what was needed. "For the play-offs, it's never over until mathematically it's over. We have been planning for next season and we will continue to work and drive this group of players and see which ones can take us out of this league."
