Women outshine men at 95th convocation of University of Mysore

Honorary doctorate for Premji, Bhyrappa

Wipro Chairman Azeem Premji, Kannada novelist S.L. Bhyrappa and film personality Nagathihalli Chandrashekar will receive the honorary doctorate at the 95th annual convocation of University of Mysore here on Friday.

Vice-chancellor K.S. Rangappa told reporters on Wednesday that Governor and Chancellor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala will preside and former IISc director and eminent scientist Goverdhan Mehta will deliver the convocation address. Minister for Higher Education and Pro-chancellor R.V. Deshpande will be present.

Like every year, this year too women have outshined men at the convocation with 16,259 women candidates (57 percent) out of 28,580 candidates will be conferred with different degrees. A total of 12,321 (43 percent) men will be receiving the degrees.

Prof. Rangappa said 396 candidates, including 133 women candidates, will receive PhD degrees in various subjects. A total of 318 gold medals and 172 cash prizes would be shared by 202 candidates in all five faculties.
