Panasonic Introduces Groundbreaking True 4K Cameras at ISC West 2015

Setting a new benchmark for 4K imaging and performance in video surveillance, Panasonic System Communications Company of North America today unveiled its new True 4K cameras, featuring a 12 megapixel 4K ULTRA HD imaging sensor. With advanced sensor and optics capabilities, Panasonic’s True 4K cameras set the standard in the surveillance category delivering True 4K resolution, True 4K optics and True 4K wide coverage for unmatched image quality. New models on exhibit include an outdoor vandal dome (WV-SFV781L) and outdoor vandal fixed (WV-SPV781L) units.

“In our evaluation, these new 4K cameras deliver the sharpest images ever seen in a 4K security camera,” said Charlie Hare, Panasonic’s National Category Manager, Security and Mobile Video Solutions. “Our custom-designed lens and sensor produce genuine 4K resolution images with very consistent sharpness across the entire frame. Many competitive 4K cameras do not provide equivalent image quality because they utilize inferior optics. In some cases these competitive 4K cameras only produce about half the resolution actually purported because of inherent losses in resolution due to weak lens performance. Panasonic specially designed a purpose-built optical system to ensure that Panasonic 4K cameras produce the highest quality True 4K images.”

The new 4K line is designed to meet the most popular security surveillance applications and specifications and builds upon Panasonic’s i-PRO ULTRA 360° panoramic indoor and outdoor ultra-high resolution cameras, announced last fall at ASIS International 2014 and now shipping.

Built on Panasonic’s high performance imaging platform, the True 4K line-up features a highly responsive 12 megapixel 4K ULTRA HD sensor that produces a 12MP image at 15fps and a 4K2K image at 30fps for incredibly high resolution at standard frame rates. The enhanced resolution of True 4K can cover a four times wider view compared to a 1080p full HD camera, and a nine times wider view compared to a 720p HD camera. In addition, True 4K cameras set a new standard for low-light performance, offering high-sensitivity in color at less than 0.3 lux illumination. Further, a built-in SmartIR-LED -ensures solid low-light performance in 0 lux environments.

The True 4K line features a new custom, 4K ready 6X optical zoom lens featuring a generous 17 to 100 degree field of view that meets the demanding resolution requirements of True 4K. Other features include IK10 vandal-proof housing for both models and Panasonic’s water-resistant ClearSight™ Dome coating on the dome camera (WV-SFV781L) to ensure better visibility and viewing even in wet and moist conditions.

Finally, like all i-PRO cameras, True 4K Series’ on-board processor has the ability to encode two H.264 streams simultaneously and offers JPEG modes for maximum flexibility. The cameras are edge recording ready with an SDXC memory card slot.

Panasonic’s True 4K cameras include many features that make them highly suitable and efficient for a variety of applications. For example, in a retail parking lot deployment, a True 4K camera enables a surveillance designer to effectively reduce the number of conventional HD cameras by almost half due to the True 4K’s ultra-wide coverage and high-resolution—significantly reducing installation and maintenance costs by as much as 50 percent.

The WV-SFV781L and the WV-SPV781L will be available in May and July respectively through authorized Panasonic resellers.
