Just in case you’ve ever had Hello Kitty nightmares, these have now become a reality and it’s all due to a Hello Kitty-liveried McLaren taking part in the Blancpain Endurance Series.
The 2015 season kicked off at Monza over the weekend and the GT3 event was loaded with controversy. We’ll start with the Hello Kitty McLaren 650S GT3, which was involved in a serious crash.
The #54 Mac driven by Ronnie Valori was right behind a Bentley Continental GT3 during the braking phase ahead of the Parabolica bend when it swerved violently to the right. The 650S hit the inside barrier at full speed, narrowly avoiding hitting track martials stationed there.
Alas, the racecar recoiled across the track, taking the Bentley out in the process. Luckily, nobody was injured in the bizarre accident.
And we haven’t even gotten to the most controversial part of the race yet. You see, the Monza race marked the competition debut of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3. The Raging Bull had taken the champagne home, but was disqualified due to an inaccuracy regarding the refuelling restrictor.
Thus, the victory went to Norbert Siedler and Rinat Salikhov’s Ferrari 458 GT3. The move was even more painful for the Lambo considering the fact that its drivers, Fabio Babini, Andrew Palmer and Jeroen Mul had secured a clear victory for Grasser Racing Team - they finished the three-hour race 37 seconds ahead of the others.
Not too many laurels for the Volkswagen Group then...
