Armed with pencils, paint brushes and paint, around 150 artists and fine arts students paid tributes to Leonardo Da Vinci to celebrate ‘World Art Day’ here on Wednesday.
In an event coordinated by the Vijay Mahanthesh Fine Arts College, ‘World Art Day’ was celebrated by artists from the North Karnataka districts as well as from Southern districts like Bengaluru and Hassan, who paid an ‘artistic tribute’ to the great artist.
Beginning at 11 a.m., after a formal inauguration by the Director of the College, Murugesh Yaklaspur which was attended by noted artist and principal of the college, M.C. Chetti, artist from Mumbai, Ramesh Pachapandi, artists and students spent half the day drawing and painting on a 50-feet long canvas.
After the completion of painting the canvas in the afternoon, Mr. Pachapandi held a small demonstration on painting techniques for the art students. The event attracted a good number of art enthusiasts.
Administrator of the college, Shankar Kundagol said that they had witnessed good participation from Bengaluru and Hassan in the event. “We now plan to send the big painting to the Chitrakala Parishat in Bengaluru”, he said.
