A 2-year -old girl died after she was crushed under the wheels of a container in Vikhroli on Monday night.

MUMBAI: A 2-year -old girl died after she was crushed under the wheels of a container in Vikhroli on Monday night.
The incident caused spark reactions by the public as they gathered on the spot following the incident and even locked the accused driver in a room. The police have stopped the entry of heavy vehicles following the incident.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 9.30 pm at Tagore Nagar in Vikhroli (east).
The girl Vidhi Singh was playing when she was crushed by the container. She was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead. Hundreds of people gathered on the road to protest against the incident. The accused driver Sheshkumar Verma, 32, was locked in a room. The police intervened and detained him before things could spiral out of control.
Heavy vehicles movement from Eastern Express Highway (EEH) to Tagore Nagar and from Bindu Madhav Thackeray chowk to Tagore Nagar has been stopped. “We controlled the situation as the container was carrying inflammable material. Heavy vehicles have been barred to enter the two roads which is a residential location,” said Vinay Rathod, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 7.
Locals stated that that the girl was playing nearby her house when she was mowed down. “There are chawls lined up alongside the road. The girl while playing may have come on the road. The girl was hit by the front wheels of the container and later she was crushed under the rear wheels,” said Waris Shaikh, a local resident.
The police rushed to the spot and detained the driver. “There was a huge mob that started to raise slogans and demanded that the driver be handed over to them. The police controlled the mob,” said Shaikh.
