Pachyderms destroy crops

Elephants destroyed horticultural crops at Y. Kota village in Obulavaripalle mandal on Monday night. A group of pachyderms trampled banana plantation in about three acres and pulled down around 60 mango trees and 12 coconut trees, belonging to horticulture farmers Chennaiah, Gurramma, Ranemma and Venkateswarlu, according to officials. The animals also damaged drip irrigation pipelines. Mandal Horticultural Officer I.V. Subba Reddy and mandal president Venkatswara Raju inspected the damaged crops.
