A tribal girl from a remote habitation in Aswaraopet mandal in the district entered into a wedlock with a tribal youth of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh under Kalyana Lakshmi scheme on Tuesday.
Joint Collector D. Divya, who is also the Project Officer of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Bhadrachalam, attended the wedding of Y. Lakshmi (20) of Suddagothulagudem in Aswaraopet mandal with Chippala Venkat (22) of Pandiri Mamidi village of East Godavari district. The Joint Collector presented a cheque for Rs. 51,000 under the scheme to the bride at the marriage ceremony held in Suddagothulagudem on Tuesday afternoon, according to ITDA sources. Scores of Adivasis from various neighbouring tribal hamlets participated in the ceremony held coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
