Even as a majority of the members of various trade unions went on leave en masse here, routine life was not affected as the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation managed to operate buses to major destinations with skeletal staff on Tuesday.

A total of 1,500 staff in TNSTC (Division-IV) in Theni and Dindigul districts applied for leave and did not turn up for work, in protest against the “meagre revision of salary” to the corporation employees.

The members of trade unions, including CITU, AICTU, LPF, PMK, DMDK and INTUC, went on leave en masse in order to express their displeasure over the wage settlement. If the government did not revise the wages, they would strike work and decide their future course of action soon, said the trade union members.

The members of Anna Thozhir Peravai attended duty and operated buses. However, a few services to certain destinations, especially to rural areas, were suspended owing to shortage of staff.

Similar trend prevailed in Theni district too.
