BELAGAVI: To keep a check on inter-state crimes and drug peddling police of border districts of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa will form 20 joint-operation teams, said Maharashtra IGP Riteshkumar.
Speaking at an inter-state police officers meeting held here on Monday, the IGP said that coordination between officers of border districts is necessary as inter-state crimes are on the rise.
“Earlier, cops used to coordinate with each other on a personal level or a higher level. This has stalled several investigations in the past,” he added.
He said that to tackle the issue it has been decided in the meeting that IGPs of all the three states will meet once in four months. “Officers of police forces of border districts will meet once in a month,” he said adding this excise will put an end to drug peddling in the region.
IGP (Northern Range, Karnatka) Umeshkumar said that there is a change in crime patterns. “There is an increase in cases in which inter-state gangs are involved. Such gangs disperse immediately after committing a crime making it difficult for cops in one state to crack the case. We need better coordination between police units of neighbouring states to solve such cases,” he added.
Belagavi SP BR Ravikanthegowda, Bagalkote SP Yada Martin, Vijayapura SP Prakash, Goa state crime branch SP Karthik Kashyap, Goa South SP Shekhar Prabhu, and other police officers were present.
