JAIPUR: A man kidnapped two girls, aged 8 years and 4 years, from their house in Jamwaramgarh area and called up their mother demanding Rs 10,000 as ransom. Police officials said that based on mobile call surveillance, the man was traced at an isolated place near Khole Ke Hanumanji in the city on Tuesday, nearly 12 hours after he kidnapped the girls.
Police rescued the girls and arrested the kidnapper.
Police officials said that the girls’ father had died a few years ago. The kidnapper knew their father and so had acquaintance with the family also.
According to the police, the accused was identified as Dharbh Singh (25), a resident of Bharatpur district. “Singh used to work with the girls’ father, a bus driver, as a helper.
Singh knew the girls’ mother Shobha Kanwar also and used to visit her at her house in Jamwaramgarh’s Ghati Ghanshyampura area. After her husband’s death, Sobha works as a labourer in Jaipur,” said a police officer.
The officer said that Shobha had gone to work when Singh came to her house around 6 pm on Monday. The girls were alone in the house. “Ritu and Shalu were alone at the house. He told the girls that he would take them to their mother and they agreed,” said the officer.
A few hours later, Singh called up Shobha saying that he had kidnapped the girls. He threatened to kill the girls if she didn’t pay a ransom of Rs 10,000. “The family members came to Jamwaramgarh police station around 11 pm and lodged an FIR. We immediately put the mobile that was used to make the ransom call under surveillance,” said the officer.
On Monday morning, the location of the accused was traced. A team was immediately rushed to the place. Police arrested Singh and booked him for kidnapping the girls. “He was planning to take the girls to Bharatpur till the ransom was paid,” said the officer. The police will produce the accused in a court on Wednesday.
