An FIR has been registered against BJP MP from Ghosi Lok Sabha seat in Mau district, Hari Narayan Rajbhar, for allegedly using unparliamentary language against Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and some other SP leaders.

According to the police, the FIR was registered late on Monday night on the complaint of Mau SP district president Shiv Pratap Singh, who alleged that Rajbhar used highly objectionable language against two senior leaders of the party and others while interacting with a group of local journalists on Monday.

Some of the SP supporters raised slogans and burnt Rajbhar’s effigy outside the Dak Bungalow in Kotwali police station area on Monday evening. Pancham Bahadur Singh, SHO Kotwali police station, said: “An FIR under IPC section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the MP. There was some protest by workers of the Samajwadi Party. But it is now peaceful.”

The police have obtained the footage where the MP makes the alleged remarks. Further investigations will proceed as per legal advice, the police said. Talking to The Indian Express, Singh said: “When we initially heard about it, we first sought the footage, which was being aired by a few TV channels. Somebody provided it us on WhatsApp, following which he got it converted into a CD on a laptop. Only after hearing it in detail, we became active and lodged a complaint.”
