Drunken youths assault interns cycling on Bellary Road
In what appears to be an unprovoked attack, two interns at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (in pic) were waylaid and brutally beaten up last Tuesday up by three unidentified miscreants who were reportedly inebriated. The incident happened while the students were cycling from the university on Bellary Road to Sahakaranagar at 9.20 pm.

The victims, Himanshu Chhattani, 22, and his friend Kaushal Patel, 23, were cycling from NCBS to Sahakaranagar when three unknown youths on a bike intercepted them near Vivekananda school, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar and hit Himanshu on the back of his head without provocation. When the victim stopped and questioned them, two of the miscreants — who were all allegedly reeking of alcohol — pulled the victim off his cycle forcibly and hit him repeatedly on his face. Shouting at Himanshu in Hindi, the miscreants also allegedly threatened to hit him with a beer bottle.

When Himanshu wriggled free and his friend, Kaushal, tried to stop the fight, the accused picked up a large stone and hit Kaushal on the side of his face. He then bashed Himanshu’s nose and head with the stone as well, before holding his collar and threatening the duo using abusive gestures.
In his statements to the police, the victim detailed how the accused allegedly picked up a helmet and bashed him with it, causing his nose to fracture and bleed profusely. Pushing Himanshu and his friend on the ground, the trio then fled on their bike. The victims rushed to a hospital and lodged a complaint the next day.
When contacted, the North East division police said, “The road is dark and there are unfortunately no CCTV cameras which recorded the incident. The victims noted down the last four digits of the bike, 2614, and we are checking all registration series. We are confident the miscreants will be nabbed soon.”
