A Ph.D scholar was on Monday suspended by Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) for alleged misconduct and indiscipline.

Mohammad Zoraiz, a Ph.D scholar in the Department of Law, AMU, has been accused of being involved in instigating violence on April 11 last when leaders of the AMU students’ union has organised a reception in honour of Rajya Sabha MP and Janata Dal (United) general secretary K. C. Tyagi.

A two-member inquiry committee had been instituted to probe the incident that took place at the Students’ Union building, an official spokesman said here.

The members of the inquiry committee have been asked to submit their findings by April 20.

The members of the inquiry committee include Prof Najam Khaliq of the Department of Community Medicine, JN Medical College, and Prof Khalid Azam, Department of Business Administration.

On April 11 when the Annual General Meeting was in progress, a mob of about 20 persons gathered near the AMU Students’ Union office where Mr. Tyagi was being accorded a reception.

The leaders of the union led by president Abdullah Azzam earlier today met AMU Vice-Chancellor Lt.Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah and demanded strong action against the alleged culprits.- PTI
