Six engineering students of Jay Shriram Group of Institutions came to meet Collector G. Govindaraj here on Monday with the grievance that their applications seeking educational loans were not yet processed by the respective banks.

N. Ramani, N. Lakshmanakumar, A. Goutham, M. Arul Prakash, L. Kuralarasan and R. Mathivanan, all first year students, told The Hindu that though the academic year was set to come to an end, they were yet to receive the loans or know the status of the applications submitted.

“Each time, the officials ask us to come later telling some trivial excuses,” they pointed out. Of them, three had sought loans from nationalised banks and the remaining three from private sector new generation banks.

Ravi Shankar, a lecturer who accompanied the students, said that the district administration had assured to refer the grievance to the Lead Bank. When contacted, Lead Bank District Manager V. Ganesan said that he would look into any grievance pertaining to the educational loan disbursement immediately. “We have cleared almost every grievance during the 2014-15 fiscal by giving topmost priority for educational loan disbursement and it is surprising that some are coming with complaints at the fag end of an academic year,” he said.

In another complaint given to the Collector, a group of residents from Kadayur in Kangayam taluk stated that they face eviction from the plots where they had been residing for many years.

“We have ration cards in our names in the same house addresses but the authorities now are trying to move us away saying that it is a temple land,” said Krishna Kumar (27), one of the petitioners.
