Sunrisers Hyderabad claimed their first Indian Premier League win of the season as they eased past the Royal Challengers by eight wickets in Bangalore.

Skipper David Warner made the Royal Challengers pay for some bad bowling with an explosive innings of 57 after Trent Boult and Ravi Bopara played their part in keeping the home side to 166 all out.

The explosive Bangalore top order threatened a big score, but kept losing wickets at vital times, first of them Chris Gayle who fell to Praveen Kumar for 21 off 16 balls.

Karn Sharma accounted for Dinesh Karthik (nine) before a double strike by England all-rounder Bopara, who reduced the Royal Challengers to 93-4 at the end of the 12th over by bowling Virat Kohli (41) and inducing Mandeep Singh (0) into providing Warner with a stunning one-handed catch at cover.

Darren Sammy managed only six runs, but AB de Villiers was going well on 46 when Boult returned to the attack in the 19th over, one that provided him with all three of his wickets.

De Villiers was caught by Shikhar Dhawan after a 26-ball stay, Sean Abbott skewed a slog to Sharma next ball and Harshal Patel perished off the last ball of the over after denying Boult a hat-trick.

The target of 167 for victory was made to look paltry by Warner and opening partner Dhawan, who played an anchor role alongside his captain.

Warner was dismissive of all the bowling he faced, smashing six fours and four sixes as he reached his half-century off only 24 balls.

He would eventually fall seven runs later, after an opening stand of 82 in 7.5 overs, and Kane Williamson made only five before being stumped off the bowling of Yuzvendra Chahal, who also accounted for Warner.

But Lokesh Rahul came in alongside Dhawan and the pair saw Hyderabad to victory with the best part of three overs to spare.

Dhawan made it to 50 with a six off Abu Nechim, and Rahul went to 44 with a four and a six off Varun Aaron to close the match and make it one win and one defeat so far for the Sunrisers. They sit fifth in the table, a place ahead of Bangalore who also have a 1-1 record.
